The British Association of Teachers of Dancing was established in 1892 and was the first professional dance teachers association. From this early beginning we have now grown to cover the entire UK and have members on five Continents. The Association offers Refresher Courses, Festivals, Seminars, Championships, Instructional Days and an Annual Conference.

We offer Professional and Amateur examinations in a wide range of genres: Tap: Jazz: Modern Dance: Stage: Ballet: Acro/Gymnastic: Highland: Scottish National: Step Dancing: Majorette: Freestyle: Rock n’ Roll: Cheer Pom: Modern Ballroom: Latin American: Classical: Club Latino and Country Western. We are also pleased to offer a Special Needs syllabus. Generous teacher discounts apply to Amateur examination sessions arranged by current B.A.T.D. members.

The B.A.T.D. is an Awarding Body Validated by the Council for Dance Education and Training is represented on the British Dance Council, the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing and the Sports and Recreation Alliance.

Entry to the B.A.T.D. is by examination or by transfer of qualification from another recognised Association. Should you wish to enter examinations with the B.A.T.D. and are not a current member then this may still be possible if you are a current paid up member of another recognised Association.
