B.A.T.D. NORTH AMERICAN TRIXIE HARDY THEATRE BRANCH SCHOLARSHIPS 2019

The North American Trixie Hardy Theatre Branch Scholarship participating teachers, candidates and Toronto Regional members would like to thank the President, Ms. Elma Whyte, for celebrating the accomplishments of our attending schools and their candidates. Ms. Whyte shared her passion and joy of dance speaking to all whom attended.

Here are a few reflections of a wonderful weekend full of dance.

Mr. Burke’s bright and energetic personality welcomed the Junior Ballet candidates to a fresh October Friday morning in Toronto. Class was filled with a beautiful port de bras, light and airy grand jetes and quick petit allegro work. 19 finalists danced with passion and grace as Mr. Burke put them through the final enchainment for the judges.

Mr. Burke lead the North American Senior Ballet candidates through challenging enchainment showcasing the dancer’s natural talents. 31 talented and determined finalists took the floor to complete the class.

Ms. Kim O’Neil lead a strong warm up for our Junior Jazz candidates on Friday evening. This was followed up with a solid isolation combination, floor progression and a beautiful lyrical jazz piece. 35 finalists enjoyed an energetic classic jazz combination to complete the class. Saturday morning began with the Senior Jazz candidates being put through a fluid warm up with Ms. O’Neil. A beautiful lyrical combo followed, allowing the dancers opportunity to connect emotionally with their audience. A traditional jazz combo challenged the 39 finalists to complete this class.

Our Junior Tap candidates began their class with a strong warmup and lines of times steps. The fun and entertaining personality of Mr. Jay Fagan brought out the best in all the Junior Tap nominees. The class included rhythm tap and a classic tap combination.

The Senior Tap class finished off the day with a vibrant body rhythm tap section after a quick warm up. Time steps and breaks were presented at a quick tempo. Class finished with a stylized tap routine. Once again Mr. Fagan kept us all entertained throughout this class.

The North American Trixie Hardy Theatre Branch Scholarship weekend could not be possible without the dedication from our many teachers and their students who continue to set their standards high. The Toronto Region thanks the many volunteers throughout the weekend along with the Toronto Regional Executive Members and the Internal Committee Members for assisting with the preparations and organization of this weekend.
