INDIA – BATD GOES TO INDIA!! DIENA HENRY OF BRIGADOON DANCE ACADEMY TEACHING CLASSES TO A PUBLIC SCHOOL IN INDIA, OVER ZOOM
B.A.T.D. goes to India!!
Brigadoon Dance Academy, is running Highland Dance classes, over zoom, to 36 girls in India!!
Principal Instructor, Diena Henry, of Nanaimo, B.C., wanted to to reach out to others struggling with the Covid Blues and do something positive during these trying times.
“My dancers and I, have been incredibly inspired by other groups, like Flings and Things (Scotland). Groups like this have shared their ideas and choreography with many of us around the globe. I am grateful that the love of Highland Dance can bring us together at this time. I appreciate the generosity of others and I wanted to reach out and give back too! I thought to myself, how can I give back and do something similar, but different?
I decided to reach out to my cousin, Lindsay Kumar, who has lived in India for many years. My cousin helps take care of over 30 children, who do not have family to live with. She lives in India, with her husband and 3 daughters. Her 3 daughters attend a Public School in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
With the help of my cousin, we have organized a Highland Dance Club, for Shishya Public School. These kids (and families) have been in lockdown since the spring of 2020. ”
Thank you Annalise Lam, Gabrielle Colonna and Hannah Purtle, who have helped demonstrate so far. Now that Brigadoon Dance Academy is closed and on zoom only, these dancers will help demonstrate from their own homes in future. Miranda Lam will also help demonstrate with future classes. The picture attached was taken before we moved our classes over to zoom.
We will be sure to send you future updates and pictures, with the approval of the Principal and parents of Shishya Public School.
We are excited to continue sharing the love of Highland Dance!
Stay safe everyone!
Sincerely,
Diena Henry
